all hollows' eve

it's finally halloween!

Goblins on the doorstep,
Phantoms in the air,
Owls on witches' gateposts
Giving stare for stare,
Cats on flying broomsticks,
Bats against the moon
Stirrings round of fate-cakes with a solemn spoon.
Whirling apple parings
Figures draped in sheets
Dodging, disappearing, up and down the streets,
Jack-o-Lanterns grinning
Shadows on a screen,
Shrieks and starts and laughter -
This is Hallowe'en!
                                                                            -Dorothy Brown Thompson

we started our halloween festivities with a delicious chicken curry sunday lunch, a la paul.

another winner, thanks baby!

then we headed outside to carve our pumpkins....

except for dad, he headed upstairs for a nap.
oh gross!
cool!
some serious carving going on.........

hey ben, you are supposed to have your splint on!!!!!!
the artists at work...
almost finished......
what concentration......
are you even
having fun, gabi?

nice sab.  he calls it a performance piece......

our 2010 pumpkin moonshines!
we(i) gathered together the pumpkin seeds from all five pumpkins and toasted them.  we like them simple, just tossed with melted butter and salt baked at 300 degrees for an hour.
pepitas, delicious and very good for you...

no one ever comes to our house for halloween (scary, long, dark driveway), so each year we head over to our good friends, verlan and karen.  our kids go trick or treating together in their neighborhood where the houses are close together (is that cheating?)

gabi was already tired of being audrey hepburn so she
decided to dress up as a ballerina bat(?) tonight......
trick or treaters...
we visited a haunted house in their neighborhood....
it was crazy!
just like
pirates of the
carribean
at disneyland!
smoke machines....
pirates,
pirates...
so spooky!
then we headed over to alisa & jerry's
and were greeted by a
scary chef!!! - i screamed!
we finally headed home,
gabi with her 8.4 pounds of loot.....
and then the favorite after trick-or-treating
activity - sorting!

another fun and festive halloween!

good bye october,
i am not sad to see you go....
you have been one very full month.
