back to school


back to school today
dad came home from work before gabi's bus arrived
to give her a big hug and a good luck for
 her first day of middle school.

the boys left for high school before i could grab them for a photo.
i will miss you guys but
wish you the best year of your life!!

be kind, make new friends, respect your teachers, 
always do your best, do your homework
and know i love you.

to celebrate this new school year,
i'll make something special for dinner
using beautiful green things from the garden.......

to make:

Pasta with Vegetables

4 oz. green beans
4 oz. zucchini
3 oz. fresh peas
1 cup broccoli
12 oz. pasta - i like to use bowtie pasta
2 oz. butter
chopped ham or bacon
1-2 cloves crushed garlic
8 oz. mushrooms
pinch nutmeg
1 tsp. basil
1 Tblsp chopped parsley
1 cup cream
salt & freshly ground pepper
grated parmesan cheese

Boil pot of salted water, add broccoli, cook 3 mins. - add breen beans and after 4 mins. add
peas, zucchini and cook 2 minutes.  Drain and rinse under cold water.  Cook pasta - rinse in hot water and toss with a little butter.  Keep warm on serving dish.

Fry bacon or ham, garlic - add mushroom, parsley, basil, nutmeg, cream and cook on fairly high heat for 2 minutes.  Add veggies and toss gently until heated through.  Season with pepper, salt and pour over pasta.  Add more grated pepper and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
