i love the christmas season.
unexpected and anonymous surprises appear in the post

this afternoon i was invited to
cathy's annual ornament party!
cathy is one of my dearest and craziest friends who
must have been one of santa's elves in a past life.
i couldn't imagine a more festively decorated home even at the north pole.
i tease her that there are no more christmas gifts in the world to give her,
she already has everything!
she greeted her friends with
a heavenly laden table of goodies to munch on......
and her husband's to-die-for homemade egg nog.

so, what do you do at an ornament party?
well, you play the ornament game.
each guest brings a boxed and wrapped christmas tree ornament.
each guest is given a number and the game proceeds with number one.
the first person chooses a boxed ornament to open.
then it is number two's turn.
if they loved number one's ornament, they can steal it or choose to open a new one.
if number one's is stolen, she gets to open a new ornament.
the game continues opening, stealing, keeping, opening, stealing......
but there are rules....
an ornament may only be stolen twice and then it stays with it's owner.
and
an ornament may not be stolen back from the person who stole it from you.
raucous laughter, heartfelt tears, hiding and cheating do occur.
i had to resort to hiding today to keep the ornament i fell in love with......
i think we all still came away friends..........
i know i'm happy!
