boulder fires

what a scary few days we've experienced.
there are many fires burning up and down our state.
we've had record breaking high temperatures and history making drought.
add afternoon dry lightening storms and you have...disaster.

on tuesday, lightening strikes started the fires on the mountains over boulder.
this is our valley.
at one point, our house was completely enveloped by smoke which was
very frightening.  we had no sense of what was happening around us.
the wind changed direction and finally blew the smoke away.

paul has been soaking our home and property each afternoon.
news that an evacuation order could be headed our way,
we started making plans, creating lists and collecting precious items and important papers.
a very real and strange exercise.

the firefighting tactics have been fantastic.
enormous airplanes and helicopters have been bombing and continue to bomb
(i can hear them as a write)
the fires with water and fire retardant.  it is a spectacle to watch.
at this time, the flagstaff fire above our home is over 30% contained - this is very good news.
our hearts go out to all that have been devastatingly effected by these wild fires.
please, pray for rain.
