the outstanding fine arts department at fairview high school
presents a teaser night each year to introduce all of the performance art groups.
the event is held in the gym which quickly becomes filled to overflowing with
proud parents and families.
the event is called extravaganza and includes performances by fairview's:
8 choirs
3 jazz bands
2 orchestras
marching band and
the fall musical cast (more on that later...)
a student art and film exhibition is also on display
as you can imagine, it is a loooong night of music and entertainment.
this was the 10th extravaganza i've attended. one or more of my kids have been involved and performing each year. nicole was in the visual arts program, margo in choirs and the musical, ben in jazz band and choirs, sebastian in choirs and gabi in the musical and choir...........couldn't be happier.
gabi is a member of the freshman choir, voices of the knight women. they performed first with two pieces. at the start of the year, gabi was voted president of the choir.
quite a responsibility, gabi.
as i mentioned, the cast of the fall musical this year did a teaser scene during extravaganza.
the musical this year is the 1930's production Anything Goes.
the auditions for the musical were held at the beginning of the school year and gabi decided to go for it and....she made it! in fact, she is the only freshman girl in the production. it has been a very intense rehearsal schedule but she has met the challenge like a pro.
i've also been involved in the production as a member of the costume committee.
i get to immerse myself and work in rooms full of vintage clothing, hats, shoes, suits from
the 1930's. the head of the committee is a university professor of theatre costume design.
being around her and the other talented women is absolutely awe inspiring.
i practically have to be dragged away from this gorgeous environment at the end of the day.
it is tech week with rehearsals lasting until 8:30pm each night.
next week is performance week. so, so exciting!!
the extravaganza finale was a mass ensemble with e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e singing
