wildlife

i've been sick this week, bleh. neither paul nor i have been sick for over three years, no sniffles, no coughing, nothing so it has rather blindsided me.....whack! long, hot soaks in the tub have been calling my name. i have been attributing the now broken healthy streak to our morning daily cup of home brewed kombucha. over the years, i had listened to health conscious boulder friends (which is the majority in our marathon running, vegan, macrobiotic, flocking to whole foods town) rave over their healthy experiences drinking kombucha and thought......whatever. then, when i was given a scoby for my birthday i reconsidered, committed and have become one of the pro-probiotic majority. go here if you'd like to learn more.

hints of autumn are starting to show up but our garden is still going strong. in fact, yesterday i discovered a very well hidden 7 pound zucchini. we are experiencing zucchini burnout so into the compost that monstrous green veggie went, i give up. cucumbers went in late and are now making their debut in gabi's lunches, an absolute favorite vegetable of hers since forever. i have finally finished harvesting the dried lavender buds, favorite pastime while watching TCM channel, and will refill our lavendar pillow with fresh and fragrant buds. my big, burly husband won't mind me admitting it's his favorite napping pillow, will he?

alot of wildlife have been hanging around lately. i keep spooking a deer at dusk as i drive down our driveway, we are being serenaded by owls in the early morning darkness, i found our recycle bin pushed over and strewn about by a bear, a coyote has been skulking around the neighborhood feasting on the many wild rabbits that now call this place home. "wile e. please, help yourself and bring your friends." these grass and garden grazers aren't even cute anymore, well maybe the little babies........sort of. but my favorite surprise was when paul called up to me to go out onto our balcony and look to my right. there, clinging to the tree as far from me as the photo shows, were two adorable but always bigger than i think they should be raccoons roxy had treed. they stayed up there nestled safely amongst the branches until nightfall with roxy locked in the house. sorry masked beauties.

gabi went with her good friend mason to his rival school's homecoming......gabi are you a traitor? nope, it's all good and his monarch high school friends warmly welcomed her. we took photos of the big group by a neighborhood lake before they loaded onto the party bus and headed to denver for dinner. fairview's homecoming is next month. can't have too many high school homecoming weekends.
