a classic colorado winter's day

we're experiencing colorado winter at its best...a late evening freezing rain turned into a hefty snowfall through the night and we awoke to blizzardy, blowing winds matched with beautiful, clear, blue skies. gorgeous! i headed out with camera in hand and roxy at my feet to capture the magic of it all. i like when winter is winter, confining itself to the november through february months. i'm so ok with that. it's the summery decembers here and wintry mays that get me firey. don't like it.
gabi and i happened to be in denver very late the night of the snow and the freezing rain hit the highways just as we were heading on our 45 minute drive home. after our icy car accident and my subsequent severe concussion 4 years ago, i'm hesitant and alittle anxious in these conditions but just as we got onto the highway, four heroic snowplows magically appeared just ahead of us with their welcomed, flashing blue lights safely paving our way all the way to boulder. thank you, thank you guys.
this weather is loved by the animals too. the pesky wild rabbits that have made our neighborhood home are everywhere leaving their telltale footprints in the deep white. matronly roxy can't wait to get out in the snow as well turning into a puppy as she bounds through the drifts sniffing out whatever it is she's discovered under the snow. she naps in the snow by choice and barks and chases the horses, comfortable in their thick winter coats, also happy and content playing and nuzzling around in the snow for grass to graze on as they wait for their hay to be provided for the day. wild card was in his spot this morning as the horses love to observe the goings on at our house. he often watches for gabi as she leaves for the day and calls out her morning greeting to him. it's cold, but it's good, so good.
