sunflower house

i had hinted in an earlier post entitled
20 more days of summer vacation
that i was creating a garden surprise to be revealed later in the summer.

well, here it is......

our family's sunflower house
inspired by my very clever friends at
 the boxcar children issue

in the spring, we planted mammoth sunflower seeds outlining an 8' x 4' rectangle,
leaving a 1 1/2' opening on one side for the door.
right next to the sunflower seeds, we planted morning glory seeds.

as the sunflowers sprouted and started to shoot upwards,
the delicate morning glory vines attached themselves to the sunflower stalks
creating the house walls
designed by the earth's most celebrated decorator, mother nature.

through the summer, these friendly, flower friends have stretched, grown, twirled and
reached gigantic heights together.........

our sunflower house has a 10 1/2 foot ceiling!!

so now, beneath the round, golden sunfaces and towering, flower studded stalks
lies a cool and shady hideaway just perfect for reading, spying or sharing secrets with a best friend.
