bon voyage

nicole and max are heading to germany.
they leave early next week to spend 6 months to a year
immersing themselves in the language and working for an artist
in hamburg.

we gathered family all around including aunt alisa and fam
for a
bon voyage party!!

we decorated with maps, globes, post card place cards and gave them
travel notebooks to keep track of their adventures in europe.

we added our stamp collection and

envelope shaped napkins to remind them to keep in touch while they are away.
the menu included one of nicole's all time favorite family dishes....

bobotie and rice with all the traditional additions
and a fresh peach cobbler for dessert.

nicole and max,
we wish you all the best on this new venture.
make the most of all the opportunities that come your way
and search out all that is good around you.

we love you dearly and will miss you so much!

bon voyage,
your family

  1. Tony's sort of half/adopted brother and wife live in Potsdam. He works in Berlin and often visits Hamburg. He is in his 30's and very, very nice, loves meeting family and loves showing people his country. Maybe Nicole and Max would like to contact him if they want a nice local "friend" when they go to Berlin. Good travels to them. X

  2. Margo, that sounds great. Would you e-mail me his info? Did you know that they are staying with Emma for a week when they first arrive in Europe?

  4. I do know that they are staying with Emma - she told me that she is quite excited about having them. I will get Stephen's details from Tony and send them to you. Will also tell Stephen about Nicole. Stephen and our Alex share a birthday, by the way.

  5. I'm so sorry I couldn't join your celebration! What a beautiful and creative table. I know you'll miss them as much as we will. And Janet -- I love your blog!

  6. Hi Shelly. We missed you but understand completely what a demanding
trip this has been. I truly hope your mother recovers quickly and completely. We ARE going to miss these two so much. I just count it as lucky that we've had them here at all!

    Always - Janet
