roasting chestnuts

have you ever roasted chestnuts?
margo decided this was something she wanted us all to try over the holidays.
we didn't quite get to nat king cole's suggestion of roasting over an open fire but close enough
as their nutty, rich aroma wafted through the kitchen.

if you're not going the wood fire route, follow these directions instead.....

to roast chestnuts, cut an X into the flat side of each nut with a sharp, pointy knife.
roast in oven at 400°F for 15 - 20 minutes on a rimmed baking sheet.

while hot, gather chestnuts in your cupped and mittened hands
for a treat on a winter evening's walk.

have a lovely january weekend.
