spring break road trippin' cont.

our spring break vacation continues with ben and kensey, paul and i taking a bike ride along the beach from venice to santa monica to pacific palisades. i can't get enough of this beach side living.

one day, nicole took gabi and caroline on a college visit tour of ucla campus, beverly hills, hollywood and some of her favorite l.a. spots while paul and i headed down south to san diego to visit my dad and my brother greg. we spent the evening on santa monica pier. lots of piering this vacation, ok by me!

besides the precious time spent with family, paul and i both lucked out with the added bonus of spending spur of the moment breakfasts with high school friends! i met up with fellow winston churchill high school cheerleaders, cheryl and kelly who both live in manhattan beach. i hadn't seen these two beauties since high school. what fun to catch up!
in santa monica, paul met up with two good friends from his rondebosch boys high school days in cape town! what the? paul, colin and prynn all played rugby together...team captain and scrum half, center and wing. i'm sure there was macho mucho reminiscing of the glory days these south african boets shared.

meanwhile.........while paul was at breakfast our last morning in southern california, gabi, caroline and i explored beautiful santa monica pier and shopping. brandy melville flagship store, gabi announced, here i come! then a sad but loving goodbye to nicole, ben and kensey as we headed north to bakersfield to visit paul's brother jo and his family.

thanks so much for the wonderful time spent together jo, heidi and aidan..........basque food, mountain biking, 1930's woolworth's luncheonette luncheon and antique shopping, vespa riding, marzipan, walks exploring bakersfield and precious time together. next stop...........

death valley! we happened to visit this desolate place on an unusually windy, windy day adding to the extremes of this hottest, driest and lowest national park. eeeeek.

as we headed east, we stopped for a night in las vegas! talk about extremes! breakfast buffet then on to provo, utah.

to visit more and more family. hi sebastian, margo and andrew! with this last destination, paul and i would have visited with all of our kids, each of our mothers and fathers, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends. the best!!

finally, our road trip was coming to an end the next day with one more state to go. when we stopped for lunch, we knew we were in wyoming.

and as a final treat, a bald eagle sighting just before we successfully and safely completed this 3,400 mile west, southwest round trip road trip. whoop, whoop! loved, loved it!
