high country

hop on in. come join us on our weekend drive up to the mountains.
it will be breathtaking and fresh and cool.

we will head east up the mountain on interstate 70 for about an hour to historic georgetown, the former silver mining camp established in 1859 during the pike's peak gold rush. this quaint mountain town is set along clear creek in the front range of the rocky mountains.

from the south end of georgetown we enter the 22 mile guanella pass scenic byway.

along the route, we pass mt. bierstadt one of our state's famous and popular 14ers.

i love the high plains of colorado. we often come upon herds of horses, big horn sheep, cattle and deer all happily spending their summer grazing at 9,000 feet.

time to stop for lunch and fill up with petrol in the, may i say, desolate
yet classic and friendly high plains town of jefferson.

and we are on our way again for a few hours more of this...

thanks for coming along and giving us the chance to share the mountainous beauty
of colorado with you.
