we spent last weekend in my mother's small hometown of montpelier, idaho.
we gathered there together with mom, all six of her children and their spouses as well as sixteen of her seventeen grandchildren from all around the country and as far away as holland to celebrate her 80th birthday year.
it was an amazing family reunion, an opportunity for so many of us to be together again, a rare and precious occasion.
to get just our family organized and up to idaho, paul and i arrranged to meet nicole, margo and ben in provo, utah to pick up gabi from the ballet intensive program she had been attending at byu then head up altogether to montpelier. this also enabled us to attend gabi's finale performance along with grandma & grandpa meyer and cousin jenny. unfortunately, sebastian had too many obligations at home in boulder, so he was unable to join us for the weekend, the only missing grandchild.
and here we all are, mom and her descendants!!
location: grandma and grandpa guyon's front porch in montpelier, idaho.
the house where my mom and her brothers and sister grew up.
my mom's brother pete now own's the family home and welcomed us all for a morning of family stories, touring, memories and reminiscing.
as children, my brothers, sister and i spent many summer's at grandma's house. i have so many memories of the attic bedrooms, backyard, dark, spooky root cellar and this quaint western town.
this is my grandfather's lunchbox he'd take to work on the railroad each day. back in the day, montpelier was a major railroad hub in the west.
we shared loads of cousin, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew and grandma time.
that evening, we all gathered for a birthday buffet dinner at the ranch hand trail stop.
happy birthday, mom!! we are all here for you!
ending with a spectacular idaho mountain sunset. pretty special day.
to be continued.......
