Aida

the weekend closed performance week of fairview high school's musical production of
aida!
these kids auditioned and have been rehearsing since the beginning of the school year. amazing!!

elton john's and tim rice's
aida is based on giuseppe verdi's 19th century opera of the same name. the musical aida tells the story of star-crossed lovers, bound by family and culture, who must decide whether to follow their hearts or lead their people. born out of conflict between egypt and nubia, aida brings a timeless story of forbidden love to a new era. premiering on broadway in 2000, it was nominated for five tony awards, a grammy, and also named one of the top ten theatre productions of the year. notable for both its rousing rock numbers and heart-wrenching ballads, elton john's eclectic score draws on reggae, motown, gospel and pop styles. this is a tragic but ultimately hopeful tale that is worth retelling, beautifully brought to life by an internationally acclaimed songwriter.

gabi danced and sang playing the part of one of princess amneris' handmaidens.....

gabi also danced, sang and acted the part of a nubian slave.

i was on the costume/wardrobe committee for the production, always an amazing experience under direction of the gifted and inspiring costume designer, anne murphy.

but what made this weekend even more special was a surprise visit from margo and sebastian to attend the closing performance. they showed up and surprised gabi during the cast dinner between the matinee and evening shows. sab and margo drove eight hours on saturday from utah and turned around and drove eight hours back on sunday. awwwww!
gabi could not have been more surprised! it was too wonderful!

it's difficult being the youngest after attending all of your brothers' and sisters' games, meets, performances, etc. your whole life and then be left at home alone.

this meant the world to gabi. thank you margo and sab!

bravo!
